RECIPE FOR "like" MARY ELLENS BEST PRESS STARCH FOR QUILTERS

This is the recipe "like" Best Press starch.

Mix together:
1 tsp scented essential oil (found in Walmart candle supplies aisle and they have lots of scents) Note: scent is optional if allergic to scents.
3 oz. vodka (YES vodka) LOL
Then add to 24oz distilled water in large spray bottle and shake well.
(Hint: Vodka is made from potatoes , a natural starch.)
..
Add one drop of food color per gallon (optional)

My mom went and got the supplies for it today and she got linen scent and it smells so good! With all the ingredients it was under $15 to make 2 gallons and one small bottle of Best Press costs you that much! I love saving money with quilting :)

ANOTHER GREAT HALLOWEEN IDEA

You all know I am into recycling. Well here is another recycling idea. Get figurines from Goodwill of brides and grooms or other figurines. I found these pictures that the middle was 3 dimensional figurines. (from Goodwill) Look at the figurines to see how the heads will come off the best. You can cut te neck off or I just hold the body with one hand to keep it from breaking and knock the heads off.

If you check Dollar Tree they have all sizes of skeletons and just pull the heads off and hot glue or e-6000 on the new heads. You can then paint it if it needs touched up, leave as is or spray paint the whole piece a solid color.

You now have one of a kind Halloween art.

We worked on the back of the store this weekend. We got the fence up but still need to find a welder but I think that will have to wait for spring. We added a grill and looking for a picnic table for people to eat outside during crops. My friend Marj gave me this awesome butterfly mural and it looks fabulous out back.

FLEA MARKET

I took a half day off and went to the flea market in Venice. I love going and so do my children We even took the dog. :) I will share more finds with you as I get them unpacked.

I loved this huge megaphone. When we have birthday parties at the store we all dress up in hats and boas and walk around downtown and sing happy birthday This megaphone will be awesome for the leader of the group. It was very ugly but with a coat of spray paint and some vinyl dots it has been diva-fied.

I found this thermos and it just reminded me of fall weather. I used a cropadile through the thermos lid and tied them to the thermos with lace and added flowers.
The twins ove kettle corn and they try it everywhere we go that sells it. They say the guy at the flea market has the best.

Cake Decorating Class coming to Precious Treasures

Jessica here.....

It's back! The class where you use any of your electronic cutters, be that Silhouette, Cricut, Gazelle...and decorate cakes! You do not need to own a special machine just for cake decorating, just a separate housing unit and blade. This class will be held Saturday, October 8 from 10-12:30.The thing I love about using my Cricut and Silhouette for cake decorating is that I can have a theme run throughout a party and also really impress my friends without a lot of extra effort or skills. The above cake was made for a baby shower I co-hosted. I used the New Arrival Cricut Cartridge to make that adorable baby, the print and cut feature on the Silhouette to make the diaper (but I could have used my Cricut for it), and I used the same "it's a girl" font on a banner as well. I love how I was able to tie the two things together.(the zebra cutout was made using my Silhouette, polka dots cut with frosting sheets, cake topper designed by Simply Said by Courtney)

Come learn how to do this fun and easy technique, and leave with a cake decorated by you. For $60, you get a cake provided by Alotta Brownies that you will decorate, access to a Cricut to decorate your cake, instructions on how to make and condition gumpaste, light snacks, a gumpaste sample to take home to use, frosting sheets provided by Icing Images to use in class and take home and the 2 DVD set, "Creative Designs for Children", created by Linda McClure, the inventor of this electronic cutting method. I will also demonstrate the Silhouette's "print and cut" feature, so you can see how to add amazing images to your cakes in seconds. There will also be a door prize drawing at the end of the class!

(Cake decorated entirely with Silhouette's print and cut feature)

And the best part? You can take your cake to the Nebraska vs. Ohio State game that night and impress all your friends!

Contact Amy to sign up today. Space is limited to 12, so don't miss out on this great hands on class, call today to sign up!

Jessica Remington was present when the idea of using an electronic cutter for cake decorating was "born" and it was her 6 inch Cricut that first was used to experiment with this method. She's been decorating cakes since 2007. She's trained extensively under Linda McClure, creator of this method, taking Linda's advanced classes in Natchez, MS, and has assisted in Linda's 1 day class. She lives in Omaha, Ne with her husband and 3 sons, who love getting any cake wrecks.
